Competitors had one more chance to stop the "Oppenheimer" juggernaut before next month's Oscars, but it just couldn't be done.
Streaming live for the first time on Netflix, Saturday's 30th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards featured thespians honoring the best of the best. "Oppenheimer" stars Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. came in as favorites for lead and supporting male actor respectively, and both won. They're part of the cast for Christopher Nolan's atomic bomb epic that conquered "Barbie," "American Fiction," "The Color Purple" and "Killers of the Flower Moon" in outstanding ensemble cast, the night's top prize.
Da'Vine Joy Randolph ("The Holdovers") took home female supporting actor while Lily Gladstone ("Killers of the Flower Moon") won lead female actor.
"The Bear" was an early winner in the TV comedy categories, taking best ensemble and individual honors for co-stars Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri, while Ali Wong and Steven Yeun snagged trophies for Netflix limited series "Beef." "Succession" triumphed over the other nominees in drama ensemble, beating “The Crown,” “The Gilded Age,” “The Last of Us” and “The Morning Show.”
